De-Stress with Every Sip

Picture this: it’s winter and you’re stressed. Working full-time, battling health
problems, and dealing with family issues have worn you down to the point where
you just don’t know how much longer you can last. All you want is to curl up under a
blanket, dump some sugar into your tea with a liberal hand, and relax. Afterwards,
though, you’re surprised to find that you end up feeling worse than ever. We’re here
to tell you about two drinks that can help drastically lower your stress levels—no
sugar here. These types of tea can both be found in the No Worries box. Let’s dive
into things and see how these drinks can help alleviate your stress.


Ashwagandha root tea. Our first choice is a tea made from ashwagandha root—an
herb that is central to many medicinal practices from the country of India. The word
“ashwagandha” means “the smell of the horse;” this may not sound flattering at first
glance, but in essence, this means that ashwagandha can give one the strength of a
horse. Obviously, it alleviates stress as well; upon comparing it to Lorazepam (a
common anxiety medication), it was found that ashwagandha worked almost as
well. Ashwagandha calms the nervous system so much that it can function as a
sedative. It also helps relieve tension and exhaustion.

Kava kava tea. This root, found on South Pacific islands, helps with stress, anxiety,
and tension. Many studies have shown that kava works well in treating anxiety and
stress—and not only does it work well, but it also works fast. It produces brain wave
patterns that are similar to the prescription medicine Valium (which calms the brain
and nerves to treat anxiety), signifying that perhaps kava and Valium work the same
way. Something important to note about kava kava is that it helps improve cognitive
function. Many prescription anxiety medicines decrease cerebral function, so this is
a huge benefit of kava. Kava has even been known to relax muscles. Kava kava tea is
made by simmering the roots in water; the kava kava tea blend found in the No
Worries box includes kava, cinnamon, carob, sarsaparilla, ginger, cardamom, and
stevia.
